This Sonic has only been open a few days. The crew is in training. So to the folks that gave them one star, cut them some slack. I waited in drive thru for over 30 minutes yes. But I can tell you this. My order was perfect and the quality of the food was perfect. I saw everyone working really hard, helping each other and providing great service all things considered. Hats off to the new crew and I can tell from watching them that they are going to nail it! Oh and clearly part of the slowness is new customers that do not understand the menu. They seem to need some training as well. :-) I have been going to Sonic for years. I just moved here (Ellicott City) from out of state as this store opened. Really nice building. Love the indoor seating. Not all Sonic locations have that. The food is Sonic food. Always great and a good value. I love the Chicago dogs, onion rings and buffalo boneless wings. But everything is really good. Ice Cream products are outstanding as well. I rarely treat myself to dessert. The waffle cone sundays are great. Very happy there is a Sonic in town. I will go back often and I know the speed of the drive thru will get there. Again, hats off to the new crew your gonna nail it! Keep up the good work.

Food is excellent Sonic fare. They are always super busy. The indoor seating is neat, like a sonic clubhouse. If the stalls are full and the drive through is long you will probably have better luck parking in the large lot behind Goodwill and walking in and ordering inside and taking out. The Sonic guy finally set me straight on a point of confusion for me based on how the menu is written: if you order a burger with 'everything' that includes mayo, mustard and ketchup in addition to the lettuce, tomato, onions and pickles. So to avoid wrong orders say 'everything except ketchup and mayo' for example, if you want mustard as your only sauce. I like the onion rings that are made in house instead of the dry cardboard ones most fast food places serve

Boyfriend I felt like having a "cheat day" so we decided to eat some sonic! This location was the most high tech location I've been to. You can order and pay with a credit card at the curbside machine. Although, ours didn't seem to work and the person who brought us our food had to take our card inside. I ordered a cheese burger and the Chicago dog with a strawberry milk shake. The burger was amazing and the milkshake was great, super creamy and big chunks of strawberries. The Chicago dog was a little sour and spicy but still very very good. We received our order and there was an extra burger! Seems like they charged us for 3 burgers when we only ordered 2. Honestly didn't really mind, since we were both starving! Lol The food was really good and the service was quick. I'd definitely go back for some more !!

I LOVE chili cheese hot dogs and they make them very well. Other favorites include their Limeaids and the Banana Creme Pie Shake. HOWEVER, everytime I've been with anyone who doesn't order a "coney", they've actually disliked it so much they've tossed the food out. I went two days ago with a companion and he ordered a chicken sandwich combo. He took two bites and was disgusted. They are CONSTANTLY messing up orders. My companion didn't even get his drink and a friend counted that out of twenty two visits, twenty were messed up in one way or another. When I went Monday, they took my companion's credit card with nary a word, then shoved it back at him. There was absolutely no customer service. Sure, we got food, but not the ones ordered and the cashier couldn't be bothered to say "here's your credit card back", let alone "Thank you." I'm giving up the chili cheese coneys and limeaids. It's just not worth the hassle.

This Sonic opened up back in October '14, so it is still pretty new in the area. Sonic offers burgers, hot dogs, sandwiches, breakfast items, combos, kids meals, and shakes/limeades/slushes. The hubs and I (okay, okay, truthfully, me) were craving for a little 'snack time,' so we decided to go through the drive-thru. I was so excited to see the 'Cheesy Bacon Pretzel Dog' on their website while waiting in queue, and noticed that it was a 'regional' special; I was so relieved that I saw it on the menu :P It's a beef hot dog in a pretzel bun, topped with salty bacon bits, grilled onions, and melted cheese. It was just okay, as I just thought it was be a little bit more tastier - the pretzel bun kind of fell flat, as it wasn't warm slightly dry T___T I also had my standard of the Chili Cheese Tots (tator tots topped with chili cheese and melted cheese), which is tasty with the ketchup - just be sure to request these 'off the fryer/dropped fresh,' and, of course, the Cherry Limeade (always refreshing! Request little ice). Service was extremely friendly, and even though there was a huge line at the drive-thru, the staff were pretty efficient in filling in the orders. I was surprised that they also had a dine-in area, the first time I've seen one at a Sonic's! +Cherry Limeade :D +Chili Cheese Tots (request 'off the fryer'/'dropped fresh') +dine-in area! +friendly staff :D

So, I've been several times and so far out of the things I've tried, I don't like the sandwiches. I have not had a hot dog yet but the burgers & crispy chicken sandwich are not that great. If I come here, I love the tater tots, limeades, and milkshakes. After 8, milkshakes are half price. They're very thick & more than just chocolate, vanilla, strawberry. They have numerous flavors. Sonic is a great for snacks & drinks, that's about it.

I heard a rumor that this owner was the man who wanted to open this Sonic next to the Arundel Mills Mall Casino but lost a multi million dollar battle to Dunkin Donuts who looks like they are about to open any day now. I did notice that this sonic is relatively small compared to other locations that I have been to, however, the other locations I have been to have been more "tropical/beachy/vacation" areas where ice cream is an everyday must. I. Do. Not. Care. This is place is smaller than most. HELLO?! We have a SONIC in the area people! GET EXCITED! We no longer have to drive to Delaware or get harassed at the Baltimore location! This is awesome!!!! So far I have been here twice and both experiences have been great and literally fulfilling =) First time I ordered a reeses blast, which compares to McDonalds, however, Sonic beats MickeyD's by miles. Second order consisted of WAY TO MUCH FOOD. I signed up for this location text messages, which obviously go directly to my phone. This was either the best decision I have ever made or the worst one (for my nonexistent abdominals). They sent me a text celebrating "Noturkey Day," which meant that ALL single patty burgers were half off. We ordered FOUR and a cheesecake shake AND a snickers waffle cone. I would have to say that the waffle cones do not hold up to the time that I eat ice cream, it started to get soggy and fall apart--I wouldn't allow small child or anyone who is messy to order this in my car. NOT UP IN HERE!!! Very messy--but then again, it could have been me. Overall, YAY SONIC IS HERE!

Been trying to cut down on fast food.. but if I get in the mood this is my new go-to (except when it comes to Chick-Fil-A fries, McDonald's vanilla iced coffee.. or Chipotle). That's all!

I've been a few times so far, and while the employees are very friendly, it bugs me how they don't default to providing condiments for items. Really, does anyone eat a Corn Dog or Tots plain? Because when I've ordered I had to go back and ask for ketchup. Corn Dogs were burnt and a bit oily when I bought them (fairly common) but still tasty, while "Medium" tots came in a small fry holder and, weight wise, came out smaller than the "small tots" order should.

This is the first time I've ever eaten at sonic. I had big expectations because I saw a long line but once I got up to the order window, I realized the long lines are there because of the really really really slow service. I didn't think too much of it, so I was really excited to eat my first sonic meal. Wow, after eating Sonic I really wish that I went with my first choice to just get Chick-fil-A instead. I got chicken strips and one onion ring, mozzarella sticks and some tater tots that were no better than what I could've bought from the grocery freezer and made myself. The only reason I'm giving them two stars is because my girlfriend actually liked her cheeseburger. Ha

Alright... So the long-awaited Ellicott City Sonic has finally been made and it has been around long enough now that the crazy drive thru lines no longer plague the restaurant. On top of that, the employees have had enough time to get the hang of things as well. Therefore, I think enough time has passed to give a objective review. The first thing I noticed about the Sonic is the size. It is like half the size of other Sonics I have seen. It's pushed away to the side of a Goodwill store and almost feels like an afterthought...kind of like as if the property owner was like, "hey... There's some extra room here! Let's just stick some fast food restaurant there." Because it's so small, I have a few complaints with the design. First getting in and out of the parking lot is a little awkward. Secondly, if you decide to eat in, it feels a little cramped inside. Likewise, the drive thru is a little cramped feeling as well... I don't have a big car but when I'm exiting, I feel my car barely fits. That's not to say big cars won't fit... I've seen huge SUVs successfully get in and out so its more of a perceived crampiness, not an actual physical one. In terms of the food, it's your typical Sonic. Now, I don't think their burgers are particularly great... If it's burgers you want, just keep driving down Route 40 and go to one of the many other fast food joints in the area. What I think Sonic does well is actually their hot dogs, particularly the Chicago dog. I love the Chicago style hot dog and it's hard to find in this area. So while Chicago purists may find faults with the dog, I'd say it's still amongst Sonics best menu items. The service here used to be super slow but it seems to have sped up now since the workers and employees presumably have now gotten used to everything. Overall, it's another fast food choice in Ellicott City. Take it for what it is... But variety is always welcomed so i have no problem with it being here. That being said, there are some physical design things that irk me but overall, I like it. 3.5 rounded to 4 stars.

Only been open 2 days so it's pretty packed. Appears to be 10 bays with one being handicap. There is a drive through but it's slow due to being new. There are employees handing out paper menus to the cars waiting so that they can plan ahead. There are a few tables inside and a few outside. You can also order inside. The lot is kind of small so it can be tough to navigate when there are lots of cars waiting. Still, I'm happy Sonic has come to town.

This Sonic is unique in that it only have 8 parking bays but has a drive through AND an outdoor and indoor dining area. Inside, there's 8 4-chair tables plus a 7-chair bar. Cozy but spacious enough. It feels like a mini-Sonic compared to previous locations. However, I have doubts this one will do just fine. For now, don't plan on a quick experience until some of the newness wears off. Plus, the drive-thru seemed to move twice as slow as most.

This sonic location is a little bit awkward. It seems like they don't have enough car parks and the whole entrance/driveway is awkward. It took a little long to get our food but it was all tasty (fast) food.

First timer of Sonic ** Suggestion to Sonic for the old folks like my parents who need glasses, your menu screens are to small and you don't offer paper menus. I know because I asked. I have perfect vision and even I had to get out of the car to read them the menu!** We got hot dogs , chicken fingers, tater tots, onion rings cheesesteak sandwich and finally the Fritos Chili. We loved the hot dogs and onion rings. cheesesteak and chicken fingers were ok. As to the Fritos Chili it was awful. the chips were stale and the chili bland. No matter how hungry you are do not order the Fritos. BTW Love Love Love the ice , Yes the ice! It is crumbly, cold deliciousness!! You ice cubers know what I'm talking about. I would not hesitate to make the 20+ mile drive (1 way, mind you) again just for the ice!!

I am happy to have a Sonic nearby. We used to drive to Fredericksburg and go to that Sonic. I know you probably think that is too far and yes it is. It was not often but when we would visit friends in the area, that bad to be on of our stops. So, when I heard we had one here near us that was decent! We jumped on it! I cannot go all the time but I love knowing it is not far.

The traffic flow is a little dicey and they open a little later for breakfast, but other than those two factors, I am really loving Sonic. I wasn't blown away by the breakfast burrito, but the tater tots were perfect. I've had the tots multiple times and they are ALWAYS crispy. There is nothing worse than an undercooked tater tot, right??? The burgers are much superior to other fast food chains in my opinion and the milkshakes are just amazing! Chocolate peanut butter milkshake?! Can't say no to that. Give it a try, the crowds have died down now since the initial opening.

Love Sonic...this one is great. Quick and they have screens so you can see what you are ordering. I notice there is always a long line for drive-thru but my boyfriend and I always park and get a car-hop anyways..that's part of the fun!

Wanted to try it out for a while, finally made it tonight. Not too pleased with the Coney dogs they were not plump at all, and seemed over cooked by the marks on them. Kids thought the food was just OK, they did complain about fries being too salty just like I. Best part of the meal was the slush for the kids and my coke seemed to taste good.

Service is slow and the place is cramped. I have been here 3-4 times since they opened and never have found them very efficient. I would have thought after 6 months open, they would have figured how to serve customers. Guess they never will.

Great. Fast service for a Sonic. Ordered 3 combos and 3 slushes at a pull up parking spot... everything was out in less than 5 mins. Will go back for a happy hour sometime.

Looking forward to initial visit to Sonic - great memories of one in North Charleston, S.C. back in 80's and their burgers/gigantic onion rings.... took 7 of my family to this new site in Ellicott City....ate at the 'inside' restaurant on Nov 30th .... here's my/our impressions: 1. Initial greeter/menu taker was Jaclyn - very small 'intake' area for which we crowded around and vocalized what we wanted. She was patient ... once everyone told her the order she repeated it back to us to make sure it was right...simply didn't work as there were too many items and we were all milling around....people stacking up behind us waiting to order. Suggestion: Overhead monitor showing exactly what was ordered...not reliant upon our memory .... 2. There were no catsup/mustard/relish/mayo dispensers anywhere - when order came we had to ask and waitress went back to get small dispensers - Suggestion: Have small dispensing area, along with napkins, nearby for customers to take what they want 3. One order (Phili cheesesteak) and fries were just lukewarm/room temperature .... had to return and get another set 4. Vanilla / chocolate shakes ... great taste 5. Cheeseburgers/foot long Coney .... delicious! 6. Molten cake hot fudge - recommend Overall - because of the intake process/no island for relish/catsup etc/room temp on some of the food I would not recommend this 'fast food' Sonic to anyone.....sorry to say we won't be coming back. To Sonic Manager - we spent total of $61.60 if you want to quantify losing several customers .... and we believe in word of mouth to family/friends. Randy and family/friend

Came at 8:30 AM on a Saturday, not only not open, but no posted hours on the door. They open at 8:00 AM according to Yelp, we ended up leaving the other lost souls waiting for breakfast and we will not be back.

At long last a Sonic Drive In close to home! My kids, now adults were dreaming of this place since Middle School! The place is nostalgic with " 1950's curb service". Orders can be made from the handy menu boards in each parking spot where a human takes your order over the push button speaker. You then swipe your credit card right at your car window and minutes later the order is brought to you by a courteous young server! BOOM! quick & easy! Now for the food! excellent cheeseburger with fries or you can get delicious onion rings that do not drip with grease! The rings are so expertly fried and drained that it is almost impossible to tell they were fried at all! Great footlong hot dog with several possible toppings including a spicy chili. Could I suggest the addition of sauerkraut which is popular in Baltimore area? I love this place! So glad you are here! Oh and try one of the specialty drinks Sonic is known for! PLEASE don't forget to tip your server a couple of bucks for their service! It's worth it!

We have been to the Sonic in Lancaster, PA and absolutely loved the Chicago Dog and the Cheesesteak. Was excited when one was opening nearby, but OH IT IS NOT THE SAME!!! The meat on the cheesesteaks in no way resembled beef, unless perhaps they boil it, and it was very sparse. The buns were rubbery (if you've ever microwaved bread for too long, you will know the texture I'm referring to). The fries tasted like they were cooked yesterday and even the soda was 75% ice. We were SO disappointed. Save your money and stop at 7-11 for a microwave hamburger, it's basically the same.

Bottom line up top: great place for fried and/or sweet things (infinity bajillion drink combinations!), but the location and size make it prone to long waits. Cranky old man alert: back in my day, Sonic was the cool place to go. You could get a Frito chili pie and a third of a gallon of cherry limeade brought out to your car by a carhop on roller skates while rocking out to oldies and Motown on the radio. And gas was less than a buck a gallon. I'm glad Sonic is finally within a reasonable driving distance for me. Oh how I have missed it so! They've kept the classics, added some things, changed some things. The burgers are tasty, tots are good, pretty much everything on the menu that I've tried (which, at this point is a considerable proportion of the menus) is good. However, as with most businesses, it's all about location, and this is where I knock off a bit for the score. You have to turn in to the Goodwill parking lot and drive through it to get to Sonic (also, Waze lies). There is one strip of maybe 10 bays, one of which is reserved for handicapped customers (which is an awesome addition I have not see before- good for Sonic!). There's a lane for drive through too. There is an outdoor seating area, and apparently an indoor area (gotta try this out next time I need my Frito chili pie fix). Their food is on point, as far as my fried food palate is concerned. The server that took our order was in a rush, and it took a significant amount of time from when I pressed the button to when we got a response. They were busy like whoa, and for it being open only two weeks, hiccups are understandable. The server was in a rush, and gave us fries instead of apple slices for the kids' meals. She was short with me, and also with others I could hear as well. I hope things move more smoothly in the future. I'm used to Sonics with four rows of lots of bays, no waiting (I want my fried, cheddar stuffed jalapeños and I want them now!). Ellicott City's Sonic is off to a good start, and I hope they keep it up!

Terrible service inside. Waited 10 minutes so the cashier could have a conversation with her best friend while there were 5 people in line. The other cashier was just hanging out organizing napkins. Wont be coming back here for at least 6 months. I don't care that its only day 4 being open. No excuse for being that bad at customer service already. I can say the bussers were quite nice and professional. Its a shame the cashiers aren't the same.

I love Sonic, and I'm hoping this is a temporary problem but both times I've been so far I've had to wait over 45 mins for the drive thru which is ridiculous. Plus they left something off my order which after having at least 15 minutes from the time I ordered to when I got to the window, you'd think they could get it right! Makes me not want to go back regardless of how much I love sonic :(

Sat in a bay for 22 mins before someone answered. People were leaving after waiting too long. Hopefully they get it together.

I love Sonic! So happy one finally popped up close to home. Not much to say abouy it other than get the tots and some kind of shake and you're good!

Great eats in the car.

(2)Steve R.

Makes me not want to go back regardless of how much I love sonic :(
(2)Jim K.
Sat in a bay for 22 mins before someone answered. People were leaving after waiting too long. Hopefully they get it together.
